Daures breaks ground for Namibia’s first Pilot Green Fertiliser Plant

The Daures Green Hydrogen Village on Saturday broke ground for the construction of Namibia’s first pilot ammonia sulphate plant at Daures Village in Erongo Region.
The facility is expected to produce approximately 400 tonnes at the start of production.
In April, the Daures Green Hydrogen Village secured funding through the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation’s (Unido) Accelerate-to-Demonstrate Facility, backed by initial donor support from the UK government’s Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, to advance ammonium sulfate fertiliser production.

Facility construction is set to take 170 days, or roughly five to six months, to complete.
Daures CEO, Jerome Namaseb, said the project will serve as a proof of concept for Namibia’s green industrialisation.
Erongo’s regional governor, Natalia ǀGoagoses, welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to create jobs and promote skills transfer.
By using renewable energy to produce low-carbon fertiliser, the project is expected to strengthen Namibia’s food security, reduce reliance on imports, and position the Erongo Region as a hub for agricultural and industrial exports within the SADC region.
