Daures Green Hydrogen Village to train over 250 marginalised youth in green innovation
The Daures Green Hydrogen Village (DGHV), in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), has launched a new capacity-building programme aimed at training over 250 young Namibians, with a focus on individuals from marginalised communities.
The initiative, titled “Accelerate to Demonstrate,” is set to begin in July 2025 and will run over the course of two years.
On Thursday Daures Village welcomed the first cohort of 10 beneficiaries who will be onsite receiving training and familiarising themselves with the sector.
According DGHV chief executive officer, Jerome Namaseb, the programme is designed to align with Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles, ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind in Namibia’s evolving green economy.
Participants will receive hands-on training in sustainable agriculture, green innovation, and entrepreneurship, as part of a broader effort to empower communities through practical knowledge and resource support.
Namaseb noted that each successful candidate will receive 500 seedlings to establish or enhance their gardens, along with subsidised ammonium sulfate fertiliser to boost production. In addition, the Daures Green Hydrogen Village has committed to entering into offtake agreements for selected produce, creating market access and income opportunities for participants.
Trainees will also gain access to the DGHV Research Data Room, where they can draw from scientific data and project insights to support their agricultural practices.
The programme includes guided business plan development for personal gardens, helping participants establish viable agribusiness ventures. Upon completion of the programme, candidates will be awarded certificates to acknowledge their training.
From 2026, participants who remain active in the programme will be invited to matchmaking sessions with potential financiers, offering them a platform to secure funding and scale their projects further.
